OUR HISTORY

On October 31, 1965, a visionary group of 37 individuals came together with a shared goal: to construct a golf course that would serve as a cornerstone for the community. Just a few months later, in April 1966, the club was officially incorporated, marking the beginning of an exciting journey.

To fund the project, 500 shares were offered at $100 per share, with 245 shares sold. A dedicated team of provisional directors was established, including Lester J. d’Entremont, Gerald A. d’Entremont, Rev. Comeau, Benoit J. d’Entremont, Kenneth d’Entremont, Stan Surette, and Harvey d’Eon. Leadership roles were soon assigned, with Mr. Stan Surette elected as the first president, Kenneth d’Entremont as vice president, Gerald d’Entremont as secretary, and Remi d’Entremont as treasurer. The board of directors included Benoit d’Entremont, Lester d’Entremont, Kenneth Peters, Gabby d’Entremont, Jules LeBlanc, Lery d’Entremont, and Father Comeau.

Mr. Cecil Manuge, a golf professional from Shelburne, served as an advisor and played a key role in designing the course. His daughter, Donna Manuge, had the honor of being the first person to officially hit a golf ball on the course. Surveying the land was entrusted to Hector d’Entremont, who mapped out 80 acres, with 30 acres designated for clearing.

The course saw its first rounds of play in 1968, and in August 1969, a grand opening ceremony was held, with Louis R. Comeau cutting the ribbon to mark the official inauguration. The community’s enthusiasm continued to grow, and in 1988, work began on a 9-hole expansion. By 1991, the new holes were ready for play, with Clara d’Entremont making the first drive on the expanded course. At this time, club membership had grown to nearly 300 members.

As the years progressed, further improvements were made. In 1998-99, a new clubhouse was constructed, culminating in a grand New Year's Eve celebration on December 31, 1999. Over the decades, the club has maintained a reputation for being one of the first courses to open each season, a tradition that continues today.

With a rich history rooted in dedication and community spirit, the golf course remains a testament to the vision of its founders and the passion of those who continue to support it.
